Housing assistance in Weston is broader than a down payment program. Depending on the household and property, there may be a path to help purchase a primary residence, make needed home repairs, strengthen a home against storms, or improve accessibility.
The programs have different administrators, funding sources, property limits, and application windows. A maximum loan amount is not a promise of approval or a cash grant. Here is a practical starting point based on the City of Weston's Housing Assistance Programs page.
1. Purchasing a home in Weston
The City describes homebuyer purchase assistance of up to $120,000, based on financial need, for qualified buyers purchasing a primary residence in Weston. Buyers must obtain a mortgage that meets Broward County guidelines and must not have owned residential property in the preceding three years. The City says buyers must contribute at least 3% of the purchase price, with up to 2% permitted from a gift.
This is described as a 0% interest loan that may be forgiven after 15 years of owning, occupying, and maintaining the home under program terms. The County determines eligibility and the amount. A buyer should confirm available funding and lender requirements before structuring an offer around the assistance. Call Broward County Housing and Urban Planning at 954-357-4943.
2. Repairing or hardening a Weston home
For an eligible owner-occupied primary homestead, the City's Minor Home Repair Assistance & Hurricane Hardening Upgrades program describes a maximum $60,000 loan, with the amount based on actual work. Examples include roof repair or replacement, impact windows and doors, insulation, air conditioning work, and sanitary sewer connections.
The City describes a 0% interest, 10-year term with no monthly payments and forgiveness after meeting the occupancy terms. Income and property-value limits apply. The listed pre-application deadline was June 30, 2026, and has passed. Check with Broward County before assuming another application round or funds are available. For general program information, call 954-357-4900.
3. Making a home more accessible
For an eligible household with a member who has a disabling condition, the City's Barrier Free/Special Needs Upgrades program describes up to $100,000 for qualifying improvements. The examples include wheelchair access, wider doorways, bathroom or kitchen modifications, and other life-safety work. It is described as a 0% interest, 10-year loan, subject to income, property, funding, and occupancy requirements.
The City also lists a June 30, 2026 pre-application closing date for this program. Ask Broward County whether a new round is open and which property and household limits now apply. The general number is 954-357-4900.
Other options deserve a separate review
The City's resource page also points to Florida's Hometown Heroes housing program, Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) financing, and water-conservation rebates. These are different programs, with different providers and terms. In particular, PACE is financing repaid through a property assessment; it is not a grant or rebate. Owners considering PACE should review the financing and future sale implications with the provider and appropriate advisers.
Match the program to the decision
- Planning to buy? Speak with a lender familiar with Broward County's purchase-assistance guidelines and confirm current funds with the County before an offer.
- Already own a Weston home? Identify the repair or accessibility need, then ask the County about the next application period, income limits, property limits, and eligible work.
- Planning to sell or buy another home? Review how the property's condition, financing, association requirements, and timing affect the transaction. Any existing assistance loan or property assessment should be reviewed with the lender and title professional before setting closing terms.
